Iran, Uzbekistan, Iraq and Japan qualified for the semi-finals after wins over Australia, South Korea, Kuwait and Syria respectively. The mentioned winners also qualified for the next World Cup automatically.
In the first match from Quarter-finals stage, Iraq defeated Kuwait by scoring three goals. Kadhim on 59′, Salman on 74′ and Al-Mahdawi on 80′ scored three goals for Iraq while Kuwaiti Alasfour on 68′ scored the only goal for his side. Goran Matkovic, the head coach of Kuwait, praised Iraq and said they were deserved to win the game. Iraqi head coach Muwafaq Husein Zaidan stated that his team is looking for the title of this tournament. More than 500 fans attended Shahid Dastgerdi Stadium to watch the match.
Uzbekistan and South Korea held the second match at Rah Ahan Stadium in the presence of only 200 spectators. On 64′ Akobir Turaev from Uzbekistan scored the first goal and the chance of his side was alive until the 94′. Referee Mohamed Al Zarouni announced a penalty kick for South Korea on 94′ and Hwang Hee Chan equalized the game. Two extra times didn’t have any goal and finally on penalty kicks Uzbekistan’s players scored all the five penalties and Korean footballers scored only three goals. Choi Moon-Sik, the head coach of South Korea, expressed his disappointment from his players in the press conference after the match. Uzbek head coach Dilshod Nuraliev was happy of the result and qualifying for the next world cup.
Iran thrashed Joeys in the third match held at Shahid Dastgerdi Stadium. This match attracted 3850 fans into the stadium and set a notable record in this tournament. Iranians didn’t predict easy win but they defeated Australia with an unbelievable result. Goals by Saeid Ezatolahi Afagh, Mohammadreza Bazaj, Ali Rigi and a brace by Reza Karmollachaab was enough for beating Australia. The number 17 player of Australia, Bai Antoniou, scored the only goal for his side on 88′. Iranian state television broadcasted the match live for people which pleased the officials of Team Melli.
In the last match of quarter-finals, Japan came over Syria. In only 10 minutes, three goals have been exchanged in this match. Taro Sugimoto and Sugimori scored two goals for Japan and Syrian Khaled Kourdoghli scored one goal for his side. Only 200 spectators attended Rah Ahan Stadium for this game.
In semi-finals Iran will face with Uzbekistan and Iraq will meet Japan.
