Afghans Must Leave Iran’s Mazandaran by July

Base on a new decision made by authorities of Iran’s Mazandaran, Afghan refugees should leave this province by July and no Afghan is allowed to stay or work in this region.

Hadi Ebrahimi, Deputy of Security Department in Mazandaran, said all the Afghans should leave this province by July and after that none of their identification and residential documents are valid. Also serving these refugees will be “illegal” after this time and it will be considered as crime. He said more than 3400 Afghans arrested in Mazandaran in last year.

Mazandaran is a Caspian province in the north of Iran. Located on the southern coast of the Caspian Sea, it is bordered clockwise by the Golestan, Semnan, Tehran, Alborz, Qazvin, and Gilan provinces. Mazandaran is a resort area in Iran and most of Iranians choose this region for their holidays.

Some of Iranians condemned this decision and considered it as racism against Afghan descent.

Afghans usually do hard jobs in Iran and they don’t have good income in compare to the average of earnings in Iran. According to Iran’s laws, they are not allowed to open bank accounts and acquire estates.
