Baidu Gets The Green Light To Test Autonomous Vehicles In California

Beijing-based search engine giant Baidu will be testing its autonomous car on the streets of California after it received the go-ahead from the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

The company is will setup a team in Silicon Valley to handle development and testing of its vehicles. It is also looking to get its cars on the road within the next two years. In both testing and potential sales it will be in the company of Google, Tesla, and many—all of which are testing in California.

In addition to testing, Baidu is also working with Nvidia in creating a platform for their semi-autonomous vehicles. So the company is extremely busy on this front and with autonomous cars as a whole being very crowded with several companies working on projects and—in Google’s case—finding purposes for its vehicles outside of selling, the race to be first out of testing is getting interesting.
