Bloomberg says that Baidu is willing to put a maximum of $600 million in the pot for some stake in Uber. The deal could give Uber a massive leg up in China. When Uber attempts to stick a flag in a new market there tends to be issues with local regulation and whether or not the ride sharing service would be legal there and how it affects long established services in the market such as taxis.
Since Baidu is immersed in China’s business law and how to navigate those water, the benefit would be a non-brainer on paper. Baidu is planning to host a massive announcement on December 17 about its new dealing with a U.S-based company. This has resulted in fingers being pointed at Uber as that company.
Breaking into China with Baidu as a partner would really be a plus given that Uber has run into trouble in Brussel lately and recent rape allegations related to drivers with Uber in India.
