T-Mobile users already know that Apple’s iPhone 5 is coming to the network, but what they might not know is that the date could be a little sooner than expected.
A while ago T-Mobile mentioned that the network would acquire the iPhone 5 within 6 to 9 months, but recent reports point that they could be getting it sooner. If you are waiting to upgrade your phone, the iPhone 5 could arrive to T-Mobile this summer. Among the announcements made by T-Mobile came the news that they will also be dumping subsidized plans.
John Legere, T-Mobile’s CEO, said that cutting subsidized plans will not affect sales and with about 2 million T-mobile subscribers already owning an iPhone, the end of device subsidies is supposed to favor lower monthly plan costs and installment plan.
The downside of the end of device subsidies is that if you want to buy Apple’s iPhone 5 you pay the full retail price. On the plus side, if you don’t like T-Mobile you don’t have to be committed to a two year contract.
Verizon and AT&T will be keeping a watchful eye on T-Mobile to see how the end of subsidies plays out, however this will be hard task to accomplish because subscribers to both ATT& and Verizon are accustomed to low upfront phone prices.
