Iran 1-0 South Korea, Javad Nekounam's Goal Helps Team Melli Beat Korea

In one of the most excising games from Team Melli, Iran defeated South Korea in Tehran. The game held in Tehran’s Azadi Stadium in Group A of the 2014 World Cup qualifier and more than 90,000 Iranian spectators attended the stadium to support their favorite team.

The first half of the match was not that exciting. Before starting the match Carlos Queiroz promised to use three forwards to annoy Koreans but Reza Ghoochannejhad was the only attacker in Iran’s squad. On 18′ his shot was saved by Sung-Ryong Jung and it was the only opportunity of Iran in the first half. After that, Koreans made three important chances to score the first goal for their side but Iranian goalkeeper Seyed Mahdi Rahmati disappointed them by his superb reactions.

After a short break, in the second half Iran national football team started the game better than its opponent but as Masoud Shojaei received the second yellow card from Abdul Malik Bin Abdul Bashir, Iran reduced to 10 men. However Iranian players recovered from the conditions and continued their attacks. On 75′, Javad Nekounam scored the winning goal for Iran. Then South Korea tried to put Iran under pressure but Iranians were too smart and they saved their goal.

It was one of the most important games for Iranians and this win will help them to qualify for 2014 World Cup, if they receive enough points in next games.
