Iran Oil Sanctions Harm Global Economy

Rostam Ghasemi, Minister of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran, commented on Iran oil sanctions

Rostam Ghasemi, Minister of Petroleum of the Islamic Republic of Iran, commented on Iran oil sanctions.

“Currently Iran is the second largest oil producer in OPEC and applying sanctions on Iran cause fluctuation of prices in oil market which obviously harm the global economy.” Rostam Ghasemi said during a conference held in Vienna.

“We believe utilizing sanction on Iran oil or military intervene in the Middle East area (clearly referring to Syria crisis) will cause more fluctuations in oil market. In this tight situation, global economy needs a stable distribution of energy.” He added.

“Oil should not be utilized to pressure on the other counties. But now we see Western countries are trying to suffer Iran by sanctions especially on oil industry.” Rostam Ghasemi criticized United States over sanctions on Iran.

On 26 July 2011, Ghasemi was nominated as Minister of Petroleum by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to succeed Masoud Mir Kazemi. He was confirmed by Parliament on 3 August 2011. Also he was President of OPEC for 2011.
