Iran to Expand its Railways Connections

The Roads and Urban Development Minister Ali Nikzad said Iran is going to expand its railways system. According to his announcement the construction of the Ardabil-Pars Abad railway will be started soon and Iran will make a new link to Russia.

“We need to expand our railways if we want to increase the connections with other regions and countries. The studies of project related to construction of the Ardabil-Pars Abad railway has been finished and we will finance the project soon. By completing this new project we can have a direct link to Russia through Azerbaijan railways. Also we will have a new connection to Europe via Russian railways.” said Ali Nikzad, Iranian Minister of Transportation and Housing.

“The best way of expanding the national transportation system is increasing the links and finishing the current projects. These new railways can also transport passengers.” Ali Nikzad added.

Iran is going to sign a new agreement with Russia about the construction of the Qazvin-Rasht-Astara railway. In 2007, Iranian Railways, Azerbaijan State Railway and Russian Railways agreed on implementing the project to build a new line between Qazvin, Rasht, Astara, Iran and Astara, Azerbaijan.
