Iranian Government Blocked Travian, Despite its Formal Accreditation from Ministry of Culture

In one of its embarrassing movements, the Filtering Committee of Iranian government which monitors the purity of online content has blocked access to Travian game.

The Persian version of Travian is available on Travian.ir domain, registered by Bavaria based company Travian Games GmbH. Travian has officially received endorsement from Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance, so its offered games definitely don’t break Islamic rules. Entertainment Software Rating Association of Iran had also classified Travian as the first age rank (Kids), ages 3+.

According to Alexa ranking system, Travian is one of the most popular websites in the country. Travian.ir is currently ranked 95th in Iran. The multiplayer online browser-based strategy game has received great feedbacks from Iranian users and it has attracted thousands of gamers.

The Iranian government has not yet released any explanation for the recent restriction but experts believe this movement will force users to utilize illegal methods to bypass governmental filtering which will endanger young users.

Along with three English versions, and the original German version, Travian has been translated into over 40 other languages, and has over 5 million players and over 300 servers worldwide.
