Iran's MCI to Innovate Persian Version of Android Operating System

Mobile Telecommunication Company of Iran, also known as Hamrah-e-Avval, is going to innovate the Persian version of Android operating system in cooperation with Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology.

“By creating this indigenous operating system, Hamrah-e-Avval will be able to distribute Persian softwares and applications to its subscribers and clients.” MCI’s spokesman announced. Accordingly during the first phase of this project which will last for three months, programmers will translate basic features of Android OS to Persian which includes the core of Android OS and other default applications such as the contact list, calendar and etc.

It’s good to know that Google has added Persian language to its latest version of Android OS. The American company had also introduced basic applications in Persian. So it is strange to see MCI is doing the same job and calling the future OS as the “Iran made operating system”.

Hamrah-e-Avval is Iran’s first and largest mobile phone network operator. MCI is a subsidiary of the Telecommunication Company of Iran and it has over 16 million postpaid and over 18 million prepaid subscribers. MCI is currently managed by Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
