Iraqi Kurdistan to Stop Oil Exports Because of Disputes With The Government

The Government of the Kurdistan region of Iraq announced on Sunday that it had stopped exporting oil “until further notice” because of the lack of access to funds claimed by the central government for nearly a year.

“After consultations with the producer companies, the ministry decided to halt exports until further notice.” The Ministry of Oil in the local government said in a statement. “We have not received payments for ten months, and there is no indication by the federal authorities that these payments will arrive.” And continued, “We hope this will be a temporary measure and that quickly recognizes those responsible for non-payment of money in the central government that failure to adhere to the agreements was not in favor of the Iraqi people.”

The local government in the Kurdistan region of Iraq threatened on Monday to halt oil exports if it continues in the central government in Baghdad holding funds belonging to active companies in the Kurdish region.
