BlackBerry is jumping on the special edition phone train with a black and gold version of its well received Passport smartphone. The new phone only has cosmetic differences and will join the company of the Limited Edition Red BlackBerry Passport.
Prior to the announcement, you could pick up the BlackBerry Passport in pretty conventional colors such as black and white in addition to the mentioned Limited Edition Red BlackBerry. The phone comes in black with gold trim along the sides and face where the keyboard is. The Passport also comes with a leather Valextra cover.
In the company’s blog announcing the new luxury version, BlackBerry’s Eric Lai goes into how much is spent in customizing the Passport—into the area of $2,000-$3,000—and what goes into the process.
The Limited Edition of the Passport will be in small supply with only 50 phones being released. The number of the phone has been pressed within the trim along with the maximum number (ex. “22/50” or 22 of 50). BlackBerry will be offering their Limited Edition Black & Gold BlackBerry at a better price of $899 in the U.S and $999 in Canada.
