Yahoo and Microsoft have agreed to renew its partnership earlier today and will feature changes to how the two companies’ search deal will be done. Set up in 2009, the original deal was exclusive between Yahoo and Microsoft. The new deal gives Yahoo more room to change search results on mobile and desktop since it’s no longer exclusive. That said, Yahoo will make use of the power of Bing while Microsoft will continue to see its ads and search results as far as desktop is concerned.
The deal also sees Microsoft and Yahoo own the ads on its respective ads platforms. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella discussed the deal and Microsoft’s history with Yahoo saying “Our global partnership with Yahoo has benefited our shared customers over the past five years and I look forward to build on what we’ve already accomplished together.”
Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer also weighed in on the partnership. “Over the past few months, Satya and I have worked closely together to establish a revised search agreement that allows us to enhance our user experience and innovate more in our search business.”
Both CEOs would give pleasantries about how they were optimistic about the possibilities and opportunities the renewed partnership would provide. You can check out the press release in full here.
