Netherlands Coach Ruled Out Van Nistelrooy From Euro 2012 competitions

Netherlands coach Bert van Marwijk announced he has ruled out the Málaga striker Ruud van Nistelrooy from participating with the team at the European Championship this year.

According to Algemeen Dagblad, Bert van Marwijk called the former Manchester United and Real Madrid man this week to inform him of the decision, effectively bringing to an end his international career. The newspaper quoted Van Marwijk as saying, “I called to inform him that he would not be in the squad. Want to tell him in a timely manner.”

Van Nistelrooy said he understood the decision of the coach Van Marwijk. “They treated me with great respect.”

“The Coach communicated it well and I thought it was understandable when he stated it was over,” said Van Nistelrooy. “I had already taken into account if I was fit enough but I am not in the Málaga starting line-up at the moment. It then becomes difficult to fulfill my ambitions with the Dutch team. But it was obviously nice to be asked if I was still available (in case of emergency).”
