Nintendo has more planned for the upcoming Switch console according to CEO Tatsumi Kimishima. In an interview with Bloomberg, he pointed out that the detachable controllers—Joy-Cons—were just the tip of the iceberg for what the company was hoping to achieve with the Switch.
“It may be appropriate to call them accessories. Or it might might be better to call them add-on hardware,” Kimishima said. “It’s probably more correct to call them accessories. You can assume that there will be a wider array.”
Going back to August, Twitter user Ryan Salamanda posted concept art of what Nintendo could do with the hybrid console with a lot of interesting combinations. I’m particularly fond of the GameCube accessory and SNES-inspired concept for the launch controller near the bottom.

Now when I saw the introduction video that dropped last week I hadn’t even considered the variety of attachments there could be for Switch—even though controller accessories are Nintendo’s thing. It’s something the company has done in almost all consoles and some handhelds since the NES and the zapper.
It will be very interesting to see what the company has planned as far as accessories and how close their plans are to Salamanda’s concept art when it holds a press event January 13th.
