Sega will be giving Ouya some support with Sonic the Hedgehog 4 episodes one and two and Sonic CD. There will be another well-known title in Final Fantasy III from Square Enix on the Ouya. The Sonic titles will be $6.99 on Ouya which is more than they are on the mainstream consoles and smartphones. With Ouya being free-to-play before purchasing a full title, Sega will allow for the first levels of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode 1 and Sonic CD to be played. In the case of Sonic 4 Episode 2, the first two levels will be playable. Of course with the Sonic series being extremely fast paced, it could be very short trial.
It’s possible that if Square Enix and Sega can get decent sells for what would be expected of the Ouya console, there could be more of their name titles released. Gamers could see Secret of Mana, Phantasy Star, Golden Axe, and so on in the marketplace in the future. This would be keen since as it stands the Ouya marketplace is pretty scarce and it’s dependent on developers getting their titles out in a reasonable time. That’s really what will make Ouya worth purchasing. Since the console is using Android, games are easier to develop for the platform so there should be a great deal out within the first six months of release.
Sega is also in a deal with Nintendo to provide Sonic exclusives for the Wii U with Sonic: Lost World, another Mario & Sonic at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games, and a third title. The release date for the titles on Ouya haven’t been revealed, but it could very well be on the June 25 retail debut of the Ouya.
