Saudi Arabia Executes 8 Iranian Sailors

Base on reports from Saudi news channel, Al-Tagheer, the eight Iranian nationals were executed in a prison in Dammam, the capital of Eastern Province, on April 15 without any legal proceedings.

It was kept secret until today because Saudi Arabia officials are afraid of Iranians reaction. Saudi officials have so far refused to make any statement about the issue.

The sailors were arrested on a fishing boat in the international waters near Saudi Arabia six years ago on charges of possessing drugs.

Local sources believe there were disputes over this execution between Saudi Arabia authorities. Nayef bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Saudi Arabia, issued the decree of this execution without informing Abdullah bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud the King of Saudi Arabia.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, refused this report by saying: “We have many prisoners in Saudi Arabia on charge of smuggling drugs. We have been informed that a few individuals will be executed in this regard,” he told reporters on Wednesday.

On Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry summoned Saudi Arabian Ambassador to Tehran Osama Ahmed Snoussi over concerns about a number of Iranian prisoners kept in the kingdom’s jails, after the ministry received worrying news about Iranian nationals jailed in Dammam.
