Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdul Aziz, President of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities, confirmed the growing number of tourists on this year in Saudi Arabia came as a result of the evolution of events and services provided during the summer season.
President of the General Authority for Tourism and Antiquities said the reports published by Tourism Information & Research Center (MAS) in cooperation with other organizations showed an increase in the rates of demand for activities and festivals held throughout the season amounted to 21 festivals. Also the number of visitors exceeded 10.6 million people which show a significant increase in compare to the number of visitors in last year amounted to 7.4 million people.
Tourism in Saudi Arabia is largely based around religious pilgrimage. Mecca receives over three million pilgrims a year during the month of Hajj, and around two million during the month of Ramadan in Umrah. During the rest of the year, Mecca receives around four million for Umrah.
