For those of us who really want to see The Interview on Christmas day, Sony has released the film through digital distribution on several platforms both for rent and to own today.
When news of the attack and the following scrapping of plans to show the film first hit, it was speculated that Sony could still get the movie out as video on demand content and that it could run at a later time. At the time Sony said that the film would not be released at all.
It was also announced that The Interview will be shown in select movie theaters on Christmas. It was reported that the number of independent theaters to show The Interview was in the hundreds. For those theaters it should a massive boon to have the controversial film run when larger chains turned down opportunity due to concerns for moviegoers.
