Recently we published a report about the opening of “Khamenei.ir” page in Facebook. Many people deem this page is the official profile of Ayatollah Khamenei which is affiliated with Khamenei.ir website. But it seems the new page which has drawn attentions from different media may be fake.
Today our reporter called The Office of the Supreme Leader Sayyid Ali Khamenei, which is responsible for Khamenei.ir and Leader.ir websites, and asked about Khamenei’s accounts on Twitter and Facebook. Note that the account of Khamenei.ir is not a verified profile in Twitter despite the company has verified several pages and profiles of Iranian figures including but not limited to Bahram Radan. So technically the company is able to verify the important profile of Khamenei.ir but the verified badge is not available for this account of Twitter.
The guy in The Office said he cannot confirm the opening of accounts in Twitter and Facebook but as long as he knew Khamenei.ir doesn’t have any official pages or profiles in the mentioned social networking websites.
The latest status of Khamenei.ir page in Facebook which is posted via Instagram has received more than 1700 comments as of now and interestingly the managers of this page have not filtered and removed derogatory words and comments. Press TV, state-run news agency, has an account in Facebook and its managers constantly edit the submitted comments and remove those insult Iranian officials.
It’s good to know that none of the authorities of current Iranian government have any accounts in Facebook or Twitter. So we can conclude that the page of Iran’s Ayatollah Khamenei on Facebook may be completely fake.
