At Apple’s Q1 2015 earnings call, CEO Tim Cook mentioned that the awaited Apple Watch will ship in April. Details were scarce, mainly focusing on the models to be available, the pricing of the least expensive model, and what phones are needed to use with the watch.
The watch will be available in several models: Apple Watch, Watch Sport, and Watch Edition. The model priced so far is the Watch Sport which will be priced at $349 and will be aluminum. The other models—gold and stainless steel—weren’t mentioned, but it can be expected that it will be significantly more than $349. This is especially true for the Watch Edition which features 18-karat gold.
In the lead up to the Apple Watch’s release, it has been revealed that to use the watches users will need a phone from the iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 families. The watch also has NFC to make use of Apple Pay in case a phone doesn’t support it. In addition to Apple Pay, the Apple Watch has features for communication, media, and monitoring fitness-related information.
