Twitter Renews Deal With MLB To Stream Day Games

Earlier this week Twitter and Major League Baseball renewed their partnership. The first game of the new streaming deal was between the Texas Rangers and Oakland Athletics on April 5. The agreement will feature one day game a week and allow for everyone to catch games they might otherwise miss.

On the MLB’s end, each month of games will be announced via a tweet. The deal has roots in Twitter’s 2016 initiative to bring live streaming to the platform. Included were MLB, NHL, and the NFL via Periscope

Given the TV viewership of the two sports, it was believed that the deals would translate to massive engagement on the platform. Of note is that the MLB and Twitter split revenue from the streams.

The current deal with showcase day games from April into September. The larger deal that Twitter was probably eyeing was the one MLB has with YouTube to showcase the World Series. This deal gave YouTube over one billion views.

You can be certain Twitter is looking at popular sports and seeing if it can get in on the major game action. For now, regular Twitter users and even those without accounts can check the weekly MLB game here. It’s best to crosscheck Twitter and Facebook’s day game schedules to see where you can view your team live. Twitter’s schedule is below.
