Uber is teaming up with DigitalGlobe, a company that deal in satellite imaging. The paring is meant to give Uber an edge by using satellites to improve its road maps with high detail imaging which of course will help drivers better do their job.
“Today we are announcing a multi-year, global partnership with Uber to supply high resolution satellite imagery,” DigitalGlobe’s Director of Business Develop Kevin Bullock said in a post. “This imagery will help improve the Uber experience for riders and drivers around the world.”
In addition to improving how well its drivers are able to perform pick-ups and drop offs, the improved satellite imaging will be a huge help when Uber gets to the stage of getting self-driving cars out. Like other companies currently working on autonomous car and delivery projects, satellites will play a massive role in accuracy of computers handling navigation of traffic and finding shortcuts.
