Uzbekistan Crowned 2012 AFC U-16 Championship

Uzbekistan claimed the title of 2012 AFC U-16 Championship by defeating its tough rival, Japan.

The final match between Uzbekistan and Japan was kicked off on 19:00 at Tehran’s Shahid Dastgerdi Stadium. Around 150 spectators attended stadium to watch the final game. 50 of them were Japanese fans who cheered their side in all minutes of the game.

An early goal by Mizutani Takuma for Japan on 6′ gave hopes to Japanese fans. Japan was the better side in the first half and they created several goal opportunities. But Uzbekistan performed better in the first minutes of the second half when Turaev Akobir equalized the match on 52′.

The match’s result was ultimately decided by penalty shoot-out where Uzbek players scored three penalties while Japanese only scored one penalty. Uzbekistan crowned AFC U-16 Championship for the first time in its history.

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) general secretary Alex Soosay, Iran Football Federation (FFIRI) president Ali Kafashian and other top officials of Iran Football Federation were among VIP attendant of the match.
