Verizon Said To Be Considering Charter Acquisition

It appears that Verizon could purchase the second biggest cable company in the U.S, Charter. In a report from The Wall Street Journal Verizon is said to be considering an acquisition of the cable provider which just purchased Time Warner Cable and Bright House not too long ago.

Telecom and Mergers: Comcast-Time Warner Cable Deal Dropped

Should Verizon pick up Charter it gives the cable provider even greater means to wrest the number one spot from competitor Comcast. In being a part of a large network such as Verizon it could do promotions for services and package deals via the mobile side while there could be promotions to switch carriers if customers are a part of Charter.

In years prior this kind of merger would’ve probably sat on the regulatory chopping block until FCC decided on the fate of the deal, but with the current administration you could see more of these mergers have more wiggle room. As it is, we’ll have to wait and see if Verizon actually makes a move.
