It looks as though indie developers will still have a hard time getting on and make cash with Xbox Live on the Xbox ONE. The Live Arcade (XBLA) is where indie developers can really turn a profit, but it requires getting a publishing deal with Microsoft Games Studios or another publisher to get their title on there. If that isn’t possible, then it’s Xbox Live Indie Games—which wouldn’t net much for a developer.
Matt Booty—who heads up Microsoft’s general manager of Redmond Game Studios and Platforms—told Shacknews that Microsoft “…intend to continue to court developers in we have.” This approach could change as Microsoft looks into “new business models and new ways of surfacing content.”
In contrast, Sony and Nintendo allows for indie developers to simply self-publish on PSN and eShop, cutting out the middle man altogether.
