Yahoo Shutters Several Regional and Specialty Sites

Yahoo Shutters Some Sites

In its product report for the year, Yahoo announced the shuttering of several regional sites that have been long time staples of their network of sites. Not only that, but several other Yahoo sites have been cut as well.

The regional sites cut include homepages for South American countries Chile, Colombia, Peru, and Venezuela which will redirect to Yahoo’s main Spanish homepage. On the chopping block for December 22 are the News and Celebrity pages for Greece, Romania, and South America.

Southeast Asia users in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Vietnam will lose Yahoo Entertainment, Yahoo News, Yahoo OMG, Yahoo SHE, and Yahoo Sports. Rounding things out on the cut list are Yahoo Classic Games, alerts.yahoo.com, and other services.

Ending services and sites are nothing new to Yahoo as Yahoo Chat and Yahoo Clubs were merged into Yahoo Instant Messenger and Yahoo Groups respectively. It should also be noted that these site closings are more of a case of the company trimming down sites and services to make better use of resources and manpower as Yahoo probably viewed them as sites with little traffic or redundant.
