A study of joint World Food Programme and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) revealed about five million Yemeni , the equivalent quarter of the population , are unable to produce or buy food they need .
“Hunger is increasing and affects the prices of food in addition to the struggle for many families .” WFP representative in Yemen says .
Food insecurity has risen in the country for many Yemenis and they are in need of emergency food assistance . The study said the popular unrest in the country in last year impacted heavily on the urban areas, reducing the ability of people to buy food .
The study stated that the priority should be directed to an estimated 1.8 million people among that five million in Yemen , especially women and children , who live in the poorest areas in north and south of the country .
