Kofi Annan the envoy of the United Nations and the League of Arab States said on Sunday that the escalation of violence in Syria is unacceptable and violates the guarantees provided to him. He called on the Syrian government to honor their commitment to stop the violence.
Annan urged the Syrian troops and opposition fighters to stop all forms of violence by the next Thursday in line with his plan for peace. Annan said referring to the truce accepted by the government of President Bashar Al-Assad, which agreed on the withdrawal of Syrian troops and heavy weapons from the towns, “As we approach the deadline on Tuesday the tenth of April, I remember the Syrian government the need for full implementation of all obligations and assure that the current escalation of violence is unacceptable.”
“I am in constant contact with the Syrian government and I ask all the countries of the influential parties to use it now to secure the cessation of bloodshed and start a dialogue.”
