United Kingdom issued a formal letter to all its citizens warning them to not take travels to Mali especially the northern provinces . This announcement issued on March 24 .
On 21 March 2012 some elements of the Malian military staged an attempted coup d’état in Bamako . Those who had staged the attempted coup made several statements on Malian TV announcing the formation of a Comité National pour le Redressement de la Démocratie et la Restauration de l’Etat (CNRDR) . The CNRDR has announced the suspension of the Malian constitution and imposed a daily curfew from 18:00-06:00 but the situation remains uncertain . Looting continues to take place . There are also reports of gunfire in parts of Bamako . There are unconfirmed reports that CNRDR sympathisers have also seized power in Gao and Timbuktu .
Also the British Embassy in Bamako has suspended operations .
Provinces of Kidal , Gao , Koulikoro (north of Mourdiah) , Ségou (north of Niono) , Tombouctou (including the city of Tombouctou (Timbuktu)) , Mopti , and areas bordering Mauritania east of Nioro in the Kayes province are those mentioned provinces in the announcement .
