Germany’s .DE Passes 15 Million Registrations

The 15 millionth domain with a .de ending registered a few days ago. The domain name was which means florists’ network in German. The holder of this domain name is Alexander Kleerebezem.

Currently more than 15,021,550 domain names have been registered by users.

Every month, an average of about 50,000 .de domains is registered with DENIC.

The first point of registration for .DE domains was at the Department of Computer Science of the University of Dortmund. Uni-Dortmund.DE was among the first registered .DE-domains. The most expensive .DE domain name was which sold for €1,960,000 in 2008. The dollar equivalent at that time was $2,858,945.

.DE is easily the world’s largest ccTLD, and the second largest TLD overall, trailing .COM which has 97,706,498 registrations. Third is .NET with 14,056,682 registrations.
