Iran drew against Qatar at home during a match from 2014 World Cup qualifier in Asia. The game held in Azadi stadium in Tehran and near 100,000 Iranians attended this stadium in order to support Iran to overpass from Qatar after a controversial win against Uzbekistan in the first match.
Iran had a different starting lineup in compare to the previous match. Presence of Ansarifard, Pooladi and Heydari was among those changes that Carlos Queiroz applied on Iran’s squad.
Iran was trying to create some opportunities from the right side by Heydari. In 10′ Ali Karmi’s head shoot saved by Qatari goalkeeper Qasem Burhan. In the first half, Qatar preferred to use a solid defensive system and using counter-attacks. However Iranian players didn’t allow Qataris to create any notable opportunity in the first half.
In the second half, Iran’s aggressive playing didn’t pay off. In some minutes all the Qatari players was defending in their box and this raised objections from Iranian fans.
Green from Australia was the referee of this game and he showed 5 yellow cards during the match. Qasem Burhan, Ibrahim Majid, Fábio Montezine, Ali Karimi and Teymourian received yellow card from this referee. Hossein Asgari, one of the officials in Iran’s football federation, said the referee hadn’t any notable mistakes in this match.
Qatari goalkeeper Qasem Burhan was chosen as the man of the match by AFC.
