Iran Warns Google Over Persian Gulf Name

Ramin Mehmanparast, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, warned Google over changing Persian Gulf name.

Google recently removed the Persian Gulf term from Google Maps service and the gulf is currently unnamed. However if users search for Persian Gulf, they will be redirected to the location of the gulf but the name of gulf is hidden. The same process works if users search for Arabian Gulf.

“Using technology for political intentions is the new method of our enemies,” Ramin Mehmanparast told reporters on Wednesday. “If Google don’t restore the Persian Gulf name to its maps, this company will receive many damages from Iranians. Because this hostile movement provokes Iranians’ sentiments and realities.” Mehmanparast reiterated.

It’s not clear if Iran wants to complain from Google to international courts.

A lot of Iranian users condemned this job by Google and some people said they will boycott using Google.
