Raul decided to not renew his contract with German Schalke and he will leave the club when season ends. He can join other clubs at no cost.
Schalke confirmed the departure of Spanish Raul officially in their website.
The Spaniard was supposed to leave during this year’s winter transfer window but the club officials convinced him to stay at least until the end of this season.
“I have made a decision about my future, and will not stay at Schalke. It has been a really tough decision. I’d like to thank the club, the president and the manager for their patience. This decision is the right one for me. My future doesn’t lie in Europe.” Raul said.
Raul joined Schalke from Real Madrid in the summer of 2010 and immediately became an important first team player at the German side, guiding the Konigsblauen to DFB Pokal glory and the semi-finals of the Champions League. He has made 63 Bundesliga appearances for Schalke so far, scoring 27 goals in the process.
A press conference is scheduled to take place later this afternoon where more information about Raul’s imminent departure will be disclosed.
Some sources believe he will join a club from Qatar for the next season.
