Blame Sony: Cross-Play in Fallout 76 Looks Unlikely

So last month Bethesda announced Fallout 76 at E3. The new installment will keep the survival element of Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas but adds online multiplayer.

This raises the question of cross-play. Something that is constantly brought up if a game has a whiff of online play. Seriously, Namco Bandai could say a new Pac-Man game would allow for online play and the question of cross-platform play would be brought up. While there are many reasons why it’s a good feature to include, I’ll just settle with “It’s 2018.”

Back to Fallout 76. The game will be on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One but cross-play will be missing because Sony isn’t having it. This isn’t the first time Sony has done this as it put the “No.” stamp on cross-play between Fortnite’s PS4 and Nintendo Switch enjoying the game together.

There could be changes in that respect as Sony seemed interested in hearing what players believe would make their experiences better. As expected cross-play was mentioned and Sony said it would look into it. Now, that could just be pacifying but it’s more than PlayStation players have gotten before out of Sony on the subject. Sometimes baby steps are necessary.

Even in 2018.
