In a surprising movement, the fans of Teraktor Sazi FC took off their clothes to support the quake-hit people in Varzaqan locates in East Azerbaijan Province in Iran. This happened during the recent clash between Teraktor Sazi and Persepolis FC in Tehran’s Azadi sports complex.
The Azeri fans wanted to show their solidarity with people in Varzaqan city. On August 11, twin earthquakes measuring 6.4 and 6.3 on the Richter scale struck the city of Varzaqan. The two quakes left more than 250 people dead, injured nearly 1,400 others and inflicted heavy damage on the region. The top officials of Iranian government promised to help survivors and build new houses for them in less than two months but as of now they have failed to do this job. The conditions are deteriorating in Varzaqan as the winter is coming and people cannot tolerate the cold weather.
Security forces in Azadi stadium reacted harshly to this movement of Azeri fans and they repressed protestors. Teraktor Sazi FC defeated Persepolis in yesterday’s match held in Tehran.
