Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Tehran early on Wednesday at the head of a high ranking political and economic delegation.
Erdogan is scheduled to hold talks with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani, and First Vice President Mohammad Reza Rahimi.
Erdogan is being accompanied by ministers of foreign affairs, energy, finance, and housing.
After holding his official meetings in Tehran, Erdogan plans to visit the holy city of Mashhad in northeast Iran late on Wednesday.
