While it hasn’t been said explicitly that the event will be about Windows 9, an event with just much hype just isn’t granted to something that isn’t as anticipated. Vague invites to the September 30th event in San Francisco were sent out via email yesterday.
Last week, videos were leaked of the Windows Technical Preview version of Threshold and showcased several features many have speculated such as the Charms bar being scrapped, a new Start menu, a notification center, Metro apps being run in a window, and virtual desktops.
These changes and other UI changes will take place from the release of the proper Windows Technical Preview into the months leading up to launch. Following the slow adaption of Windows 8, Microsoft is truly looking to craft a Windows OS that will be please not only mass and professional users. Considering the effort Microsoft is putting into this project and press around Threshold it’s highly likely that it will go on to be branded Windows 9 come launch time.
