Backwards compatibility was a feature wanted for Xbox One and PS4 and with the update of the dashboard, that feature will be a reality. The focus will be on Xbox 360 games with 104 being announced. Among those are hits like Assassins Creed II, Borderlands, Fallout 3, and Mass Effect. Microsoft says that more games are on the way as well.

“You can expect new Xbox One Backward Compatible games to be announced on a regular basis, starting in December,” said Xbox’s Director of Program Management Mike Ybarra in the announcement. “More titles are on the way, including fan favorites like Halo Reach, Halo Wars, Call of Duty: Black Ops 1,Bioshock, Bioshock 2, Bioshock Infinite, and Skate 3. Stay tuned because this is just the beginning of a long list of Xbox 360 games that will run on Xbox One.”
Both digital and physical games will work with backwards compatibility and you’ll be able to play with other regardless of if they’re on Xbox 360 or Xbox One. In addition to these games, it was also said that Xbox 360 games that appear in Games with Gold after November 12th would be available to play on Xbox One. The list of all 104 games can be found here.
